Try Hockey For Free Day!

Do you know a child who has always wanted to try the game of ice hockey but never had an opportunity to do so? On Saturday, November 7th from 10:30am to 12:00pm, the Chelmsford Hockey Association is opening the doors of the Chelmsford Forum to boys and girls ages 4-9, at no charge. Participants are invited to skate with CHA instructors to experience the fun and excitement of the game of ice hockey. Free skate rentals will be available to those in need and hockey helmets are required. Some donated equipment will be on hand, including sticks.

The Abayudaya Jews of Uganda: Musical Performance and Talk by JJ Keki

Congregation Shalom-Chelmsford invites the community to an event of multi-religious interest featuring JJ Keki. JJ is a leader of the 1,000-member Abayudaya Jewish community of Uganda. He has been acclaimed in Oprah Magazine for his leadership of the "Delicious Peace" interfaith Fair Trade coffee cooperative. Nominated for the 2005 Grammy in traditional world music, JJ will introduce us to the Abayudaya fusion of African and Jewish music. He will share the story of his community’s evolution, from the struggle to maintain Jewish identity in the face of persecution, to the remarkable development of ties with neighbors of different faiths. This program is part of a Kulanu speaking tour to raise funds for two Abayudaya schools that educate and feed 700 Jewish, Christian, and Muslim children. Kulanu ("All of Us" in Hebrew), is a non-profit organization which supports isolated and emerging Jewish communities around the world. JJ will give a multimedia presentation about the education, nutrition, health, and economic development programs that are supported by Kulanu, and perform traditional Abayudaya music. Donations and proceeds from sales of Abayudaya music CDs, hand-crafted kippot, and fair trade coffee will go toward the schools. NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month

It is a fun, seat-of-your-pants novel writing event where the challenge is to write an entire novel in just 30 days. That means participants begin writing November 1 and must finish by midnight, November 30. The word-count goal for our adult program is 50,000 words, but our Young Writers Program allows participants who are 17 years old and younger to set reasonable, yet challenging, word-count goals.*

These weekly meetings will provide support, inspiration, and snacks for young people participating in NaNoWriMo.

English Conversation Circles Library volunteers run this Beginners English Conversation Circlesfor adults interested in improving their English speaking skills.
